Everything you need to know about finding and working with chess coaches

Getting Started

How do I find a chess coach?

Finding the right coach is easy! Browse our coach directory where you can filter by skill level, specialization, language, price range, and more. Each coach profile includes their experience, teaching style, and student reviews to help you make an informed decision.

What skill levels do coaches cater to?

Our coaches work with players of all levels, from complete beginners learning the basics to advanced players preparing for tournaments. When browsing coaches, you can filter by the skill levels they specialize in, ensuring you find someone who matches your current abilities and goals.

How much does coaching cost?

Coaching rates vary based on the coach's experience and specialization, typically ranging from $30-$150 per hour. Many coaches offer package deals for multiple sessions. All pricing is transparent on coach profiles, and you only pay for sessions you book.

Booking & Sessions

How do I book a coaching session?

Once you've found a coach you like, visit their profile and click "Book Session" or "Contact Coach". You'll be able to select your preferred time, duration, and provide any specific topics you'd like to cover. The coach will confirm the booking, and you'll receive payment instructions.

Note: As this is currently a demo platform, actual bookings and payments are not processed. This feature will be fully functional in the live version.

What happens during a coaching session?

Sessions are typically conducted via video call (Zoom, Skype, etc.) or in person if you're in the same location. Your coach will assess your current skill level, discuss your goals, and create a personalized learning plan. Sessions may include position analysis, opening/middlegame/endgame study, tactical exercises, and homework assignments.

How do I prepare for my first session?

Before your first session, think about your chess goals and current rating. Prepare any specific questions or positions you'd like to discuss. Make sure you have a stable internet connection and a quiet environment for video sessions.

  • Know your current FIDE/USCF rating or approximate skill level
  • Have your chess goals ready (tournament preparation, rating improvement, etc.)
  • Prepare any specific games or positions you want to analyze
  • Test your video/audio setup beforehand
